Glen Powell opened up about nerves before a kissing scene. The actor told PEOPLE about the moment, saying, “I will just say that, because Perry and I are such good friends, I will say that is probably the most nervous I’ve been. Truly. I was like, ‘Oh, man.’”
In the final episode of Chad Powers, Rus, played by Glen Powell, and Ricky, played by Perry Mattfeld, share a kiss after weeks of romantic tension. After Ricky takes a job at a different football team, the two no longer coach and play, allowing their romantic interest to surface.
Mattfeld said the scene was “also a very intense emotional moment,” while Powell added, “There’s a lot going on.”
“I think it’s a long time coming, but it’s also — there’s heartbreak in it too. I think that’s why it’s emotional,” Mattfeld said.
The series is inspired by Eli’s Places video in 2022. Powell co-created Chad Powers while
Eli Manning and Peyton Manning are executive producers. In the video, Eli Manning was undercover at Penn State Football’s walk-on tryouts.
While talking about the series, Powell added, “Season 1 was such a big, wild swing that I think we hit a very, very small target, and it’s a show that’s really hard to pull off. It was always ambitious, but I think on season 2, not only are we throwing more at this ensemble, comedically, emotionally — we’re really relying on the team as a superpower — but on the storytelling aspect [too].”
Powell described the series as intense, funny, dramatic, and having high stakes. Chad Powers’ Season 2 is currently available on Hulu.
