Great news for fans of HBO Max’s buzzy hockey romance series “Heated Rivalry”: Not only has it snagged an early renewal for Season 3, but a movie is on the way too, according to a report from Deadline.
Seasons 2 and 3 are currently filming back to back with plans of wrapping both six-episode seasons in late November or early December. According to the report, the standalone movie will follow, with a production start eyed for December. The film will be a Christmas/holiday special focusing on the other Season 1 couple, Scott (François Arnaud) and Kip (Robbie G.K.), with additional characters sprinkled throughout. However, Connor Storrie’s Ilya and Hudson Williams’ Shane will not be appearing in the movie, which is being planned for a theatrical release in December 2027.
Based on Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” novels, “Heated Rivalry” stars Williams and Storrie as Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, international hockey phenoms who have been carrying on a secret relationship since their rookie days.
The show’s sprawling ensemble cast also includes Arnaud as Scott Hunter, a fellow hockey player who eventually comes out during a live televised game; G.K. as Kip Grady, a smoothie barista whose relationship with Scott inspires him to come out; Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova as Svetlana, Ilya’s close friend (formerly with benefits); Christina Chang as Yuna Hollander, Shane’s momager; and Dylan Walsh as Tom Hollander, Shane’s well-meaning father.
