Jay-Z has officially come to the end of his JAY-Z 30 shows and his last performance in Los Angeles featured Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Too Short.
On night two of his residency at Sofi Stadium, the King of rap set the record straight on his ability to bring out crowds, give them what they want and do it without leaning on a set list heavy with special guests saying,
“You gotta be really real with what’s going on in the world,” he said during “Encore.”
“People will tell you that nobody was in here tonight, but you got eyes. You can see. People will tell you that the music wasn’t great, but you got ears. You gotta understand, you gotta question everything. This world with AI and everything, it’s been going on forever. They called it propaganda before. But now, the technology has caught up and people are tricked. A lot of tricknology for us… Make sure you question everything you feel.”
Heard you, Hov!
Reviews from night one were mixed, with some people lamenting the lack of a packed guest list from Hov; however, others celebrated his ability to perform a nearly two-hour show of back-to-back hits at 56-years-old. He’s more than proven that he can still rock a stage all on his own. Snoop and Dre came out to perform “Nuthing But A G Thang” and “Still D.R.E”—a track that showcases Jay’s abilities as a songwriter for others as he famously penned Dre’s verse.
Too Short was on hand to perform his classic “Blow The Whistle,” which never gets old. And Jay’s baby girl Blue reprised her role as pianist for her father on two tracks. It’s no small feat to still command sold out stadiums after three decades in rap, an art form that is only 50 years old, itself. While so may rap legends have been lost well before their time, to witness an icon continue to ascend higher even after his prime is inspirational.
Well done, Hov!
