It has been a rough few months for the Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series. After renewing it for Season 2, Marvel canceled Wonder Man in July 2026. Then news followed that Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, which is set to air in 2027, will be its last. While Marvel Television was reportedly pulling back from live-action Disney+ series, a new original series has been announced.
At New York Comic-Con, Marvel Studios officially confirmed Zodiac, set for release in 2028. The Disney+ series is described as a spy thriller that will begin filming in spring 2027. Marvel confirmed casting would begin in the “next couple of weeks.” Marvel Studios revealed the first official logo for the series:
No details have been revealed yet about who or what Zodiac will center on. Zodiac itself is the name of a supervillain group created by Roy Thomas and Sal Buscema, and introduced in The Avengers #72 in January 1970. In the comics, the team consists of twelve superpowered individuals themed around the 12 figures of the Western zodiac.
Before the project was officially announced, many suspected a rumored MCU spy series might continue Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which ran on ABC from 2013 to 2020. There are currently no plans to revive the first MCU series, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennett recently said in an interview with Elle that she would be open to reprising her role as Daisy Johnson/Quake in the MCU. Bennett said:
“Totally. I’m obsessed with Daisy. I feel like I am Daisy. I would be so protective of her. I’m still low-key angry that they don’t fully acknowledge this as canon—the real followers will understand that. We were the first MCU TV show, and we did 130-something hour-long episodes. We spent a lot of time in people’s homes, and I spent a lot of my life playing this character and this young woman growing into her power. There’s a lot of symbolism in that, especially looking back now. I would love to play her with the growth that I’ve had since I’ve had a break from the role.
Zodiac will be released in 2028, alongside films such as X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther III as part of Phase 7. These titles are set to follow Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumored to restart the MCU, kicking off a new era for the franchise in time for its 20th anniversary. The new creative direction appears to be series that are less interconnected with the feature films and scale back on featuring major Marvel heroes.
The upcoming MCU Disney+ series, VisionQuest, will debut with a two-episode premiere on Oct. 14, 2026. It is the final entry in a trilogy that includes WandaVision and Agatha All Along. It is also the final MCU release before Avengers: Doomsday.
