If discovering a new TV show is exciting, I think it’s equally great to rewatch an old favorite. Over the years, I’ve revisited the sci-fi series Lost, random episodes of Seinfeld (along with complete rewatches), and underrated 2000s shows like Joan of Arcadia. It’s definitely true that not every show needs to be seen more than once. On the one hand, it can be fun to revisit a sci-fi or fantasy story to experience the intriguing world-building and lore all over again. On the other hand, some sitcom humor becomes stale, and knowing the twists and turns of a long-running drama can make a second viewing boring.
While I love checking out new Netflix thrillers, I rarely want to rewatch them. There is so much TV to get through, right? Cliffhangers also aren’t that much fun when you know they’re coming, after all. But that isn’t the case with one particular (and very popular) series, His & Hers. It’s the most watched series of 2026, and I’m here to share why it needs to be watched a few times.
Why You’ll Want to Watch ‘His & Hers’ More Than Once
I wrote about His & Hers back in January 2026 when it premiered and I couldn’t wait to dive into the story of a formerly married couple dealing with a shocking murder. Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal star as Anna and Jack, who find themselves in each other’s lives again when Anna returns to her hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia. Anna is a TV news anchor covering the death, and Jack is a cop. These six episodes explore traumas, Jack and Anna’s emotional relationship, and the creepy feeling that they’re not talking about something important. I was hooked fast.
I’ll be totally honest, though: when His & Hers it premiered, I didn’t love the ending. No spoilers here, but I thought it was a bit too wild, and wondered if it made logical sense. But after reflecting more on the series, I think the entire six-episode ride is fantastic, and it works even better if you watch it a few times.
Ever since that infamous reveal in The Sixth Sense, I’ve been interested in plot twists. It’s amazing to observe how a writer organizes a story, sprinkles in some clues, and wraps it all up with a big surprise that makes sense but no one could have guessed. A plot twist can’t be outlandish if it’s really going to work. It needs to somehow feel practical and natural, yet also be a surprise. That’s a tall order, and it’s not always achieved. While You has surprises, the ending is easy to guess because it seems like Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) journey can only wrap up in one of two ways. I had no idea where His & Hers was going.
Although His & Hers has a shocking ending, the entire story makes more sense once you’ve seen it more than once. The first time you view it, the TV series, based on the novel by Alice Feeney, feels equally melodramatic and meaningful. Anna and Jack’s grief feels real, and they are fascinating characters who have both lost something. While tragedy brings some people together, it can also make it impossible to stay in a relationship, especially if there are already problems. Anna and Jack’s love story was almost more intriguing to me than the murder at the core of the story, although I did want to know what happened.
Like with any mystery, though, it’s hard not to rush through these six episodes just to get to the reveal of the killer, rather than reflecting on the themes and small moments. However, when you rewatch the Netflix thriller, it feels like a totally new show. Once you know the twist and character motivations, it’s clear that the story is structured perfectly, and you can take the opportunity to slow down and think more about Anna and Jack.
At its heart, His & Hers is a story about decisions and the corny old saying that “maybe love isn’t enough” (or perhaps it is). It also explores what going “home” actually means. It says a lot about family, too, and as someone who has lived in the same city all their life, it made me think more about what it would be like to leave and then come back after a terrible and life-changing event. So watch these six episodes, then watch them again, and see what you think of that memorable ending.
