Other Mommy’s chilling post-credits scene proves the horror is far from over yet. The brief but eerie scene delivers one final unsettling moment after the credits roll that completely reframes the entire film’s ending.

What happens in Other Mommy’s post-credits scene at the end?
Other Mommy does feature one scene after the credits roll. The post-credits moment shows Other Mommy looking down at the camera. She then puts her finger to her lips and whispers a quiet “Shhhhhhhh.” The brief scene suggests the supernatural entity still lingers despite her apparent destruction in the film’s climax.
The main film ends on a warmer note before this stinger plays. Bela tricks Other Mommy by pretending to offer her heart, then destroys the entity. The family reconciles during a winter scene where they put up Christmas lights together. Bela notices her mother’s neck scar matches the scar on her own back.
Rob Savage directed the film, which Universal Pictures released on October 9, 2026. Nathan Elston wrote the screenplay, adapting Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. Jessica Chastain stars as both Ursula and the titular Other Mommy. Jay Duplass, Arabella Olivia Clark, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen round out the cast.
The film follows seven-year-old Bela as a sinister entity infiltrates her home. Other Mommy takes the form of Bela’s mother and repeatedly asks to enter the child’s heart. The entity exploits fractures in Bela’s family, including her parents’ marital troubles and hidden secrets.
James Wan produced the film through his Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner. Principal photography took place in Dublin, Ireland between May and July 2025. The production initially carried the working title based on the source novel. Universal later pushed the release from its original May 2026 date to October.
Critics have begun weighing in on Other Mommy on Rotten Tomatoes, with early reviews skewing negative. One critic called the film overly reliant on gimmicky flourishes and lacking a coherent message. Another reviewer noted the film delivers a strong opening but struggles with everything that follows.
