While Bleach‘s anime adaptation is finally coming to a close, series creator Tite Kubo still has plans for the franchise. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the mastermind behind one of the most beloved manga/anime franchises of all time revealed what he has in store for Ichigo Kurosaki and the rest of Soul Society.
Don’t Bleach My Fist, an official spin-off series, is officially in its planning phase for its second installment. What started as an April Fool’s joke titled “High School Warfare” has become the basis for a brand-new series set in an alternate reality in which Ichigo and the rest of the Bleach cast are members of rival high schools.
It’s a fresh start for the Bleach franchise, and with artwork provided by none other than Kubo himself, fans couldn’t be more excited.
Tite Kubo’s ‘Don’t Bleach My Fist’ 2 Is Officially in Progress
Don’t Bleach My Fist is set in an alternate reality in which there are rival high schools battling one another. Ichigo is a student at Gotei High School who finds himself in a stand-off with students from Stern Cross Academy, home of the Quincy characters. While the series is illustrated by Kubo, it’s written by Ryogo Narita, the author behind Spirits Are Forever With You and Can’t Fear Your Own World, two more Bleach spin-offs.
Narita has plenty of success creating his own franchises as a mangaka as well. He’s the mind behind Baccano! and Durarara!!, two massive series with their own unique styles. It’ll be interesting to see how the “High School Warfare” April Fool’s joke gets fleshed out, as there is plenty of potential in the ongoing feud between Ichigo and the Quincys.
Tite Kubo’s official X account has announced that the next part of the spinoff is in the middle of “enthusiastic production.” There’s no word as to when this second installment will be released, but the artwork so far shows plenty of promise, giving the Arrancar high school delinquent makeovers.
Bleach Is Far From Over
After nearly three decades, the Bleach franchise is still ongoing. The main series’ manga has finished, and the anime is about to wrap up as well, but that doesn’t mean that Tite Kubo is out of stories involving Soul Society, ensuring that all of the ‘Big Three’ of shonen (One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach) continue on in their legacy,
In fact, the original Big Three have now run for so long that they’ve outlasted the next generation of shonen, sometimes referred to as the ‘New Big Three’ (Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia). Jujutsu Kaisen even had its own official sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which still finished before any of the original Big Three.
Don’t Bleach My Fist is exciting for many fans because it isn’t power-scaling Bleach to a ridiculous level. Ichigo won’t have to fight aliens, nor will there be a litany of new, absurd powers introduced to keep the franchise interesting. Instead, power will be scaled back to hand-to-hand brawls between rival high school gangs. With Yamato and Yhwach as opposing principals, Bleach‘s future feels like it’s exactly where it belongs.
