Dax Shepard has recalled feeling uncomfortable when his mother wore a tank top during his childhood.
The actor discussed the experience while speaking with Taron Egerton on an episode of Armchair Expert, explaining that he became particularly uneasy when other men appeared to notice his mother in public. Shepard recalled accompanying his mother to places such as the grocery store when she occasionally wore a white tank top.
“My mom has big boobs,” the host said while describing the experience. He recalled, “My mom would occasionally wear a f***ing white tank top, and I just remember like, ‘Oh f*** man. We’re going to the grocery store. She’s in the white tank top. There’s gonna be like weird dudes that just start talking to her.’”
Shepard admitted that he strongly disliked those situations, saying, “I hated it.” Egerton said he experienced similar emotions while growing up with his own mother. The Rocketman star described her as an “attractive woman” and said he remembered feeling angry and inadequate when he noticed other people paying attention to her.
The discussion then shifted toward the relationship between single mothers and their sons. According to him, boys raised by single mothers can sometimes become more involved in their mothers’ lives. “You are filling in some gaps because they don’t have anyone there to share their day with,” he noted.
Shepard and Egerton’s discussion also touched on their respective relationships with their fathers.
